The graphics on this stamp... *shudders*

Ok, first off. Sorry if my stamps sound rude, they do... I know they do, but I hate this with a passion.

When I (and I'm sure this counts for a lot of other people here on DA and on other sites) create an OC (original character), sometimes I get comments that say.

"Your OC looks like my OC. :0" Or "Your OC looks like random anime character here. :3"

Trust me the smiley faces don't help...

I really don't like it when people compare my characters to another especially when I worked hard to make them up.

Yeah, I can understand there might be tiny things that look like something similar from another character, but a lot of characters can have those simple similarities and will.

Sorry for the ranting, but this really does irritate me. It just feels like your comparing someone's baby with another.

"Hey! Your kid looks like Edward Cullin! :iconlooolplz:"

(No offense to twilight fans)

So you see? Thank you for reading.

Naw man. I take a look at the characters they compare mine too and the only similarity I see is usually the hair. :0 Just... the hair.

I try to make sure my OC's aren't similar to others. For example, Harold, one of my OC's, have a design based off one of my classmates. Keanu Thompson, another OC, has black hair and blue eyes. The only one exempt is Sakura, due in part of her being a metamorphmagus.

Especially when the character is one you've never seen before.
Or they're associated just because of the species.

Nothing, but telling someone their original character looks like another is very discouraging. It's not inspirational at all.

and in what way is that discouraging?

Because that person worked hard to create something unique and if someone says it looks like another character then they become downhearted because their character is being compared to another.

well, maybe that person is a fan of that character. Take Vex, one of my krawks. His brother Akkedo is owned by [link] Although at first you'd think I stole Ake, upon close inspection Vex looks vastly different (I'm not going into details). But I know that Miss Bulma is loved by many and so to have Vex compared to Ake is almost like that deviant giving both me AND bulma a fave.

Just look at the comments on this stamp. Not everyone thinks that way.
I find it to be insulting and discouraging. Perhaps some people consider it a fave, others consider it an insult.

So, let us just agree to disagree.

They look similar but not a copy but I was using it as point.
Or there are two manga artists (don't know names forgot) who are twins but work for different companies but anyways if you ignore plots and dialogs and just look at the art they are very difficult to separate. Their companies tried to sew the other for copy infringements but the brothers pointed out their twins grew up together inseparable so of corse their art is going to be the same.
may not be your case but just another point :)

It's pretty discouraging to see those things, I do agree. Me, I'm proud of when someone has drawn a character and uses it in their stories. The only time I'd point it out is if they did something similar to (but not limited to...) literally pulling out Cloud Strife, emo-git style, spikey hair, sheet metal on a stick and all, and the only things they change are him having an eyepatch and calling him something like "Hail" or something of that sort. Otherwise, I let everything pass. :XD:

Yes, I'm not cool with that either. I mean, I could understand if someone was in the same force and they wear the same colour armour, uniform or such, but when it's supposed to be an original, and ends up being a clone with small tweaks, then the "original" in the original character is completely trashed.

Case in point, I can take this being a separate being from this and they thrive in the same world, but this loses the magic by being a complete copy of the original without any true deviation.

Indeed. I can see your point there. Originality is what all true artists strive for! :iconmahboiplz:

I know few people who does this.. And it is REALLY offending towards the artist of the picture. You work so hard creating something unique and some person comes over all like 'hey that looks like my this and that character! (:' and it annoys the hell out of you.
And when someone does the same to them they start bitching off about it. -___-

Yeah... I know what you're saying. =n=

I like to stay as original and creative as I can, so when someone says my character looks like someone else's it does annoy me.

It really is offensive to artists, yes.

I agree completely! While some OCs may be similar, they are still original and unique in their own ways, hence, Original Character.
